Eaton Middle School: About Us

At Eaton Middle School, through academics, extracurriculars and positive relationships, our primary focus is  creating good humans!

We build strong relationships through our Capturing Kids’ Hearts program to create a safe, caring community where every student belongs and is empowered to be a leader of their own learning, their classroom, and their school. Students lead in many areas of the school! Students may teach parts of daily lessons or greet each other at the door. Others are part of one of our three leadership groups on campus. Still others participate in one of our many clubs or athletics.

We recognize the unique needs of pre-adolescents  and embrace movement, exercise, and free play as essential to students' learning and well-being. Towards this end, we strive to make physical activity and engagement part of every day. Our students still have required PE classes each year, and a minimum of one recess every day!

Raising good humans means addressing the whole child, including physical and psychological safety. Students come to school with their own mental health challenges and trauma that can’t be ignored if we want them to be able to learn. We provide a weekly character education lesson based on the Capturing Kids’ Hearts leadworthy traits, have two full time counselors on staff, as well as a part time therapist and a part time school psychologist. A School Resource Officer on staff helps keep our building and children physically safe.

Middle school is a great time to explore various interests, creative outlets, and potential career paths in a low-risk environment. EMS offers many electives such as Industrial Technology, Family and Consumer Science, and STEM/Computer Science as well as the fine arts (art, choir and band). Students attend field trips and experience guest speakers that expose them to more of the exciting world around them.

Our focus on strong academics is coupled with the belief that students should have an educational experience that they believe is engaging, relevant and challenging. Teachers are trained in Depth and Complexity structures to help students learn to critically think and challenge themselves, while encouraging unique and fun learning experiences that get students excited about every subject area.

We know humans, especially young adolescents, thrive with clear and consistent expectations and structure, coupled with warmth and respect from educators who care. Our experienced teachers and staff work closely together to support student growth both academically and behaviorally, bringing joy to learning and teaching, helping every student feel supported and become the best version of themselves.

Stop by some time and meet the great humans that make Eaton Middle School a great place to learn, grow, and work!
